Hi , In this tutorial I will guide you through how to speed test your VPS in linux.Using speedtest-cli which uses speedtest.net servers to test your VPS internet speed.Speedtest-cli relies on python 2.4 and above most linux distros now come with python installed.Ubuntu and CentOS do have python by default. In this tutorial I am using CentOS 6.
This will also work from your linux terminal if you have linux on your local machine.
Step 2 – Download speedtest-cli , enter the following code and press enter.
wget -O speedtest-cli https://raw.github.com/sivel/speedtest-cli/master/speedtest_cli.py
Step 3 – Make the file executable using the following code.
chmod +x speedtest-cli
Step 4 – Run speedtest-cli using the code below , press enter see the results!
Notable mentions -In the last line it gives you a link so you can use an image version of the speed test.Speedtest-cli will use speedtest to automatically pick the closest server to use for the test , A small amount of servers give an error and the test fails. The way to fix this is to define the I.D of what server you would like the test to run on you can see a list here
